    Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold-medal winner, Naftali Temu, has announced that he is retiring from international running. He announced his retirement from the Kenya Military Training Centre at Lanst outside Nekuru where he is a army sergeant in charge of physical training.

    In the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, Naftali won a gold medal for the ten thousand metres and a bronze medal in the five thousand metres. In the 1966 Commonwealth games in Kingston, Jamaica, he won a gold and a bronze.

    Naftali's athletic career started in 1960 and in the same year he represented Kenya in international meetings. In the Munich Olympics this year, he injured his right leg. Although he has retired from international athletics, Naftali will continue competing for his club in races within Kenya. He is 27 years old.

    He plans to further his career as a coach, concentrating on younger Kenyan athletes.
