  • Description

Despite a cautious welcome in the Arab world for the Syrian-israeli disengagement pact, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine has warned that querrilla raids against Israel are likely to continue.

In Beirut on Thursday (30 May) Mr. Beseem Abu Sharif, chief spokesman for the P.F.L.P., said his organisation was fighting for democracy in Palestine and would not settle for anything less.

The disengagement on the Golan front, as on the Suez front earlier in the year, would make conditions more difficult for the Palestinians.

But, he said, radical Palestinian organisations would continue fighting until they reganied their full and legal rights in their homeland.

The disengagement agreement hammered out by the American Secretary of State, Doctor Kissinger, does not take account of possible guerrilla raids into Israeli territory. However the United States is reported to have signed an agreement with the Israeli Government to give diplomatic support for any Israeli retaliation should Arab guerrillas strike into Israel.

Following is a transcript of the statement by Mr. Bassam Abut Sharif, spokesman for the Popular Front for the Liberation of palestine, made in Beirut.
