The meeting in the Presidential Palace in Nicosia was held under tight security conditions with armed police patrolling the grounds. This led to tension and there was scuffle between police and waiting journalists.

Following the meeting, Archbishop Makarios announced that he could take over the administration of the Paphos Diocese and that elections would be held shortly to replace Bishop Yennadios.

Bishop Yennadios, together with Bishop Anthimos of Kitium and Kyprisnos of Kyrenia, has demanded the Archbishop's resignation on the grounds that his Presidential duties conflict with his church duties and are forbidden by canon law.
