    1960 is Independence year for a number of African states, and more than 20 Ministers, mostly from French West African territories, arrive in Essen, July 4, to visit the famous Krupp Wagon and Locomotive factory, and to take part in informal talks on the development of their import and export trade.

    Germany's Ludwig Erhard, Minister of Economics, invited the Ministers to Krupps as part of his scheme for help to under-developed countries. Krupps director, Alfred Schmidt, conducted the party round the great factory and showed them many thins of technical interest, including modern diesel-locomotives and ship's crankshafts.

    Countries represented in the delegation were Dahomey, Ivory Coast, French Somaliland, Madagascar, Mali, Senegal, Sudan, Niger, Chad and the Central African Republic.
