    INDIA AND PAKISTAN TODAY (FRIDAY) RESUME THEIR TALKS IN RAWALPINDI-PAKISTAN'S CAPITAL - ON THE 15-YEAR-OLD KASHMIR DISPUTE, WITH NO SIGN OF A COMMON APPROACH TOWARDS A SETTLEMENT. THE DISCUSSIONS, SCHEDULED TO LAST TWO DAYS, ARE AIMED AT PAVING THE WAY FOR A MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT AYUB KHAN AND MR. NEHRU.

    THE PAKISTAN GOVERNMENT ISSUED A REPORT LAST NIGHT QUOTING THEIR DELEGATION'S LEADER, MR BHUTTO - SEEN POSING FOR CAMERAMEN ON WEDNESDAY WITH INDIA'S DELEGATION LEADER, MR. SWARAN SINGH - AS SAYING THERE COULD BE NO BASIS FOR NEGOTIATIONS IF INDIA INSISTED KASHMIR WAS AN INTEGRAL PART OF INDIA.

    YESTERDAY'S OPENING TALKS WERE CURTAILED WHEN THE DELEGATION LEADERS CONFERRED FOR AN HOUR WITH PRESIDENT AYUB KHAN.

    OVERSHADOWING THE TALKS: THE SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT OF PAKISTAN AND CHINA'S AGREEMENT IN PRINCIPLE ON THE ALIGNMENT OF THEIR BORDER - A MAIN ISSUE IN THE CHINA-INDIA BORDER DISPUTE IS OVER THE OWNERSHIP OF AREAS OF LADAKH, WHICH FORMS PART OF KASHMIR CONTROLLED BY INDIA.

    BOUND FOR PEKING IN THE CHINA-INDIA DISPUTE IS MRS BANDARANAIKE OF CEYLON, THE WORLD'S ONE WOMAN PRIME MINISTER. SHE SAID TODAY SHE WAS CONFIDENT HER MISSION WOULD BE SUCCESSFUL WITH MR. CHOU EN-LAI. HE'S SAID HE WELCOMES THE INDIA-PAKISTAN TALKS AND HOPES THEY WILL ACHIEVE POSITIVE RESULTS.
