  • Description

At the World Figure Skating Championships in Calgary, the Soviet skaters Irina Rodnina and Alexei Ulanov on Thursday (9 March) took their fourth consecutive world title in the pairs event.

Their performance was considered particularly good, because Mice Rodnian had been hurt while skating earlier in the week.

Surprise of the pairs event was the performance of the United States skaters, Jo Jo Starbuck and Ken Shelley.

They produced a breathtaking free-style performance which boosted them from sixth place in the championship to third.

Second place went to Ludmila Smirnova and Andro Suraikin of the Soviet Union.
