    INTRODUCTION: The President of Senegal, Leopold Senghor, called on British Prime Minister, James Callaghan in London Tuesday (30 March). No details of their talks were officially released.

    SYNOPSIS: President Senghor is in London for a private meeting of the Socialist International group. But, while at number 10 Downing Street, he attended a luncheon gathering which included the British Foreign Secretary, David Owen. Dr Owen is to leave shortly for an extensive tour of black and white African states.

    President Senghor is a vice-president of Socialist International. The organisation's private meeting had reportedly been called to discuss the situation in Spain. Several delegates from Spain attended with representatives from many of the 60 political parties affiliated to the organisation. The meeting was also apparently called to discuss the future activities of Socialist International.

    President Senghor was accompanied on his visit to England by Senegal's Finance Minister, Babacar Ba. Senegal's one of 27 countries affiliated to Socialist International.
