SYNOPSIS: The Public Health building in Abidjan was the scene of a brief ceremony on Monday. Twelve vehicles were given to the Ivory Coast's public health department by UNICEF.

    M. Maurice Diwouta, resident UNICEF representative, handed the keys of the vehicles over to M. Felix Serie, Director-General of Public Health.

    M. Serie represented M. Hippolyte Aye, the Ivory Coast's Minister of Health. The vehicles include Land-Rovers and a Peugeot 404.

The vehicles are worth about 12,000 Pounds Sterling and are part of this year's UNICEF assistance programme.

They'll be used to train medical staff. They'll also be used in health programmes to combat contagious diseases like leprosy and tuberculosis. Another shipment of vehicles is expected later in the year by UNICEF to the Ivory Coast's Public Health agency. This will bring to 150 the number of vehicles supplied by UNICEF to the health authorities.
