    Background: The United Nations has passed by an overwhelming majority a resolution calling for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Kampuchea. In a debate on Wednesday (14 November) the General Assembly approved the motion by 91 votes to 21.

    SYNOPSIS: The resolution was sponsored by the five members of the Association of South East Asian Nations.

    The members of the Association are Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

    Another 25 countries backed the motion, including Australia, Canada and Japan.

    The resolution called on all parties to the conflict in Kampuchea to cease all hostilities forthwith. Fighting has been taking place between the Kampuchean government backed by Vietnam, and forces loyal to ousted President Pol Pot.

    The result was announced to the members by the Assembly President, Salim A. Salim of Tanzania.
