Background: The swimming events at the African Gams, being held in Algiers, appear to be dominated by Tunisia. On Friday (14 July) Tunisia took five gold medals and set two new African Games records.

SYNOPSIS: The swimming events were the ideal sport at the Third All-African Games in Algiers, as there were many reports of contestant in other sports being effected by the blistering heat. This was the one hundred metres freestyle for women, with Tunisia's Myriam Mizouni in the lead. Zaza Affane of Algeria was close behind hen with Sandjar of Egypt in third place.

And that was the way they finished. It was Mizouni's first gold for the day.

Tunisia did it again in the Women's 400 metres medley. Egypt took most of the Gold medals in the swimming events at the last two Gams, but were not doing so well this year. It's Mizouni once again leading at the turn.

Affane of Algeria strongly pursed Mizouni, but could not catch her. The Tunisian effort of four minutes 13 point one seven seconds was an African record.

Another gold for Tunisia came in the men's two hundred metres butterfly event. At the turn into the final lap, it's Sammir Bouchlaghem going strongly.

Bouchlaghem is one of Tunisia's youngest swimmers. He was on his way to setting a new African Games record...two minutes 14 point one two seconds. Bouchlaghem also won the one hundred metres freestyle and the one hundred metres backstroke.
