Background: Soccer -- and the Argentine side Boca Juniors won the South American Club Championship -- the Libertadores Cup, for the second year in succession, on Tuesday (28 November) when they defeated Colombian champions Deportivo Cali by four goals to nil. The game -- the second of two legs -- produced lively attacking football, and at times some heavy tackling.

SYNOPSIS: With the score nil-all from the first leg, the Colombian champions set the game in motion. But they soon found it difficult to penetrate Boca's defensive curtain.

It was Boca Juniors who began to dominate. And only the flailing arms of Cali goalkeeper Zaspe, prevented them from taking an early lead.

Playing crisp, incisive football, Boca scored their first goal after fifteen minutes. The move started out on the right where number seven Mastrangelo, was having an impressive game. His low cross caused problems for the Cali defence and Perotti moved in swiftly to make it one-nil.

Spurred on by a fervent crowd, freshly elated from their country's World Cup triumph, Boca attacked right from the start of the second half.

The Colombian defenders found it increasingly difficult to cope with Boca's constant forays, and soon began to give vent to their frustration with some callous, crippling tackles.

In the sixtieth minute Boca capitalised on the pressure they had created. Mastrangelo's curling shot was perfectly placed past Zaspe and made it two-nil.

Eleven minutes later, Boca went further ahead. Number nine Salinas, scoring after a long solo run, was duly congratulated by his jubilant team-mates.

Five minutes before full-time Perotti completed the rout. The wild celebrations continued well into the night, with street scenes reminiscent of those in June, when Argentina won football's most coveted trophy.
