  • Description

    Lead-in:
Dorthy Hamill, of the United States, skated to the forefront in Innsbruck on friday (February 13th) to win the women's figure skating gold medal at the Winter Olympics.

SYNOPSIS: This is Isabel de Navarre of West Germany skating in the final. She came fifth with 182.42 points. Dianne de Leeuw of Holland came second to win the bronze with 190.24 and Hamill triumphed with 193.80. Third was Christine Errath of East Germany with 188.16
This is Hamill in her final round. Only the absence of a triple jump robbed the nineteen-year-old American of a perfect score. The gold was a particularly sweet reward for Hamill who was defeated by de Leeuw last year ir Colorado Springs for the world title.

Dutch-born Leeuw, who now lives in California but still skates for her native country, defends her world title in Sweden next month.
