  • Description

A passing out parade at the Police Training School in Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone on Tuesday (5 March) was attended by the Prime Minister, Mr. S. I. Koroma, who is also Vice-President.

Fifty-two recruits took part in the ceremonial parade -- many of them women. The guard of honour which Vice President Koroma inspected was under the command of a woman of ???icer, Superintendent Rexina Davies and a woman constable was awarded the Baton of Honour.

In a speech, Vice President Koroma reminded recruits that their primary duties include the protection of lives and property; the detection and prevention of crime and the apprehension of offenders. He stressed that it was the responsibility of officers to ensure that the good name of the Force was not tarnished by their misdeeds or professional misconduct.

In the execution of their duties, he advised the new constables to keep cool, be tolerant, and not succumb to emotions even though they may be provoked by the public.
