Meeting the international press in Bonn, Mar. 10, West German chancellor Dr. Adenauer made reference?
Meeting the international press in Bonn, Mar. 10, West German chancellor Dr. Adenauer made reference to a recent soviet memorandum and said that, while the Federal Republic was very anxious to have a peace treaty and friendly relations with Russia, she would oppose any treaty between German states. If the Germans in the Soviet zone were allowed to vote in a plebiscite they would "opt fro freedom and not for the communist system".
Speaking about trial of Adolf Eichmann in Israel, Dr. Adenauer showed deep concern about the influence proceedings might have on the world's attitude towards Germany. The trial would revive memories of the atrocities of the Nazi regime, and it was only human even fro unprejudiced people to be shocked by what they would read and hear. But he was confident that Israel would not use the trial as a political weapon. It should not be forgotten that the Nazis committed "exactly the same crimes" against Germans as against Jews.
Dr. Adenauer could see no change in the American attitude towards Germany, since this was based on unaltered political and geographical factors. The review by the new American Administration of the whole world position was "necessary, right, and wise".
