    President Leopold Sedar Senghor of Senegal met President Georges Pompidou of France at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Tuesday (17 October).

    President Senghor told newsmen after the meeting that he was confident that Africa's interest would be well looked after at the European Summit conference beginning on Thursday (19 October).

    Me said he was convinced that Africa's interests would be defended by the majority of participating states, and particularly by France.

    President Senghor met the French President on his way to Strasbourg, where he is to address the Council of Europe on Friday (20 October).

    SYNOPSIS: African's future relations with the Common Market were discussed in Paris on Tuesday in a meeting at the Elysee Palace between President Leopold Sedar Senghor of Senegal and President Pompidou.

    President Senghor told reporters after the meeting that he was confident African interests would be well looked after at the European Summit conference in Paris this week.

    He was convinced that France and most Common Market members would defend African interests.

    President Senghor said the question of Africa's future in the enlarged Common Market was one of the main objects in this lunch-time talk with President Pompidou. Nineteen French-speaking African states have economic links with the European Market.

    The French-language states concerned, are to meet their English-speaking neighbours in Brussels next months. The English-language states are considering applying for a similar association with the Common Market after Britain's entry.

    President Senghor's visit to Paris came during a journey to Strasbourg, where he will address the Council of Europe.
