Background: Norman "Pangaman" Sekgapane of South African boat Italy's professionally welterweight Everaido Coats Azevedo in Johannesburg's Rand Stadium on Saturday 30 November). The fight went tue full ten-round distance, but the outcome was never in doubt ... Sekgapane won on points.

This is the fifth multi-racial, international boxing contest to have been held in South Africa since the Government relaxed its ruling on multi-racial sports. The first such contest was held in mid-August.

But the result was no surprise to local fans: Sekgapane has been voted 'Boxer of the Year' in his own country -- he holds two national titles -- and is rated among the top ten junior welterweights of the world He has already fought Brund Arcari for the world junior welterweight title and floored the highly-rated jorgen Hansen of Denmark in the ninth round last August.

Former bricklayer Azevedo had also fought Arcari -- and gone the full 15-round distance with him -- but he was no match for the steady attacks of the salesman from Soweto who can now leek forward to another crack at the world title.
