    SPEAKING AT A CEREMONY AT WHICH HE ACCEPTED THE DRAFT OF THE NEW GREEK CONSTITUTION, THE GREEK PRIME MINISTER, MR. GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS, YESTERDAY, (SATURDAY) ANNOUNCED AN AMNESTY FOR NEARLY TWO AND A HALF THOUSAND GREEK PRISONERS. THE AMNESTY APPLIES TO COMPOSER MIKOS THEODORAKIS, AND FORMER PRIME MINISTER GEORGE PAPANDREOU.

    MR. PAPADOPOULOS, WHO WITH TWO OTHER COLONELS OF THE MILITARY JUNTA WHICH HAS HELD POWER IN GREECE SINCE LAST APRIL, WAS DEMOBBED AFTER BEING GIVEN THE RANK OF GENERAL LAST WEEK. HE PROMISED IN A PRESS CONFERENCE LAST WEEK THAT HE WOULD ACCEPT A NEW GREEK CONSTITUTION FROM THE PRESIDENT OF A 20 MEMBER COMMITTEE. HE SAID THE GOVERNMENT WOULD HOLD A REFERENDUM ON THE NEW CONSTITUTION BY NEXT APRIL. THE GOVERNMENT WILL ADD ITS OWN REVISIONS TO THE CONSTITUTION BEFORE DOING THIS.

    THE AMNESTY INCLUDES MOST OF THE 2,500 PRISONERS ARRESTED FOR COUNTER-REVOLUTIONARY ACTIVITIES SINCE THE COUP ON APRIL 21, WHEN MR. PAPADOPOULOS TOOK OVER AS LEADER OF THE MILITARY JUNTA.
