    Eleven countries were represented in the 22nd International Cross Country Race held at Kassar Said in Tunisia on Saturday (11 March).

    The race is organised annually by the International Council for Military Sport and over the years has become a major event in world athletics.

    Countries represented this year were Algeria, West Germany, Belgium Spain, the United States, France, Italy, Morocco, Holland, Egypt and Tunisia.

    Strongly favoured to win the gruelling race was Tunisia's Mohamed Gamoudi. But it was not to be and the race developed into a Moroccan triumph. Haddou Jadour of Morocco finished first, and Ben Abdesselem Mohamed of Morocco was second.

    The race is run over a distance of a little more than 6 miles (9.87 kms) and Jadour's winning time was 29 minutes 26.2 seconds.

    SYNOPSIS: A parade of international athletes in Tunisia on Saturday before the running of the 22nd International Cross Country Race. This year, the event attracted entries from eleven countries.

    From Furthest afield - the United States team. Watching the march past were leading Tunisian officials - and members of the diplomatic corps. This contingent - from Italy.

    The strong Moroccan team - including cross country specialist, Haddou Jadour.

    The Tunisian team received a warm welcome from the home crowd - particularly the man picked to win this year's event, Mohamed Gamoudi.

    The event is organised by the International Council for Military sport. Among those attending were Tunisia's Chief of Staff, the Untied States Military Attache in Tunis - and Tunisia's Minister of Defence.

    Leading already - Haddou Jadour of Morocco, who was to win the event with ease. He's followed here by Zaddam of Tunisia...No.73...and the popular Gamoudi who was to mange only fifth in this year' event.

    As the leaders increased the pace towards the end the huge field of runners became more and more spread out.

    At this stage Jadour and Zaddam are well clear - but Zaddam was to lose his place of as two other moroccan runners moved into second and third places.

    Into the final stretch and Haddou Jadour - the easy winner. His time for the journey -- 29 minutes 26-point-two seconds.
