    THE MOST FAMOUS LAND-MARK IN FRANCE, THE EIFFEL TOWER IN PARIS, IS GETTING A FRESH COAT OF PAINT. IT HAPPENS EVERY SEVEN YEARS AND THE DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS TASK IS CARRIED OUT BY A TEAM OF HIGHLY SPECIALISED PAINTERS WHO ARE NOW WORKING ON THE SUPERSTRUCTURE BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND STAGES.

    THERE ARE FIFTEEN MEN IN THE PAINTING TEAM AND BETWEEN THEM THEY WILL APPLY FORTY TONS OF LIGHT BROWN PAINT BY THE TIME THEY HAVE FINISHED ALL 300 METRES (984 FEET) OF THE FAMOUS TOWER.

    THE EIFFEL TOWER, WHICH STANDS IN THE CHAMP DE MARS, WAS BUILT IN 1889 AT THE TIME OF THE EXPOSITION OF PARIS. IT HAS THREE STAGES, OR FLOORS AND AT THE TOP CARRIES A LOFTY TELEVISION AND RADIO MAST.
