Background: Former Miss World, Indian-born Reita Faria, married an Irish doctor in Dublin on Tuesday (5 January). Miss Faria, who won the Miss World title in 1966, has been working in the United States with her husband. They flew to Ireland specially for the wedding.
The couple met shortly after Miss Faria became the first contestant from India to win the "Miss World" title. Miss Faria, twenty-six, met her husband, Dr David Anthony Powell, when they were both medical students in Ireland, in 1967.
More than six hundred will-wishers were at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Dublin to see the wedding. Among the guests was Miss Faria's mother, who had flown from Bombay for the ceremony.
After a short honeymoon in Ireland, the couple will return to the United States. But they plan to settle down eventually in Ireland.
