Background: The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Chief Jonathan, on Tuesday (December 7th) completed a five-day official visit to the Malagasy Republic.
The visit has resulted in an agreement to establish diplomatic relations--and in a joint statement reaffirming that both countries believe in dialogue with South Africa as the way to solve the problem of racial discrimination.
When Chief Jonathan arrived at Tananarive last Thursday (December 2nd) he was greeted at the airport by the Vice-President of the Malagasy Republic, Mr. Rabemamanjara.
SYNOPSIS: Tananarive Airport was the starting point for a five-day official visit to the Malagasy Republic by the Prime Minister of Lesotho, Chief Jonathan. A group of high-ranking Malagasy officials led by Vice-president Rabemamanjara went to the airport to greet the Prime Minister.
During his visit to Malagasy, Chief Jonathan was to travel widely--and was invested with Malagasy's highest honour, the Cross of the National Order of Malagasy.
Chief Jonathan was on his first visit to Malagasy. As a result of talks between him and the government in Tananarive it's announced that Lesotho and Malagasy are to establish diplomatic relations. In a statement the two countries have also reaffirmed their belief that a dialogue with the South African Government provide the best chance of solving the problem of racial discrimination.
Chief Jonathan left Malagasy for home on Tuesday.
