  • Description

The Yugoslavian soccer team visited Buenos Aires on Sunday (3 July) as part of their preparations for the 1978 World Cup. Although the Yugoslavs lost to Argentina by a penalty on this occasion, they're considered to be among the principal contenders for the Cup.

SYNOPSIS: The Yugoslavs, in the all-white strip, are the fourth European team to play against Argentina in the past two months, to give them some experience of the conditions they'll meet when the World Cup matches are played in Buenos Aires at the same time next years.

On this occasion the Yugoslavians were disappointed. Their number four fouled the Argentine number seven, the referee awarded a penalty and it was comfortably slotted home.

Argentina continued to attack and won a free kick just outside the Yugoslavia box but it was saved.

In the second half the capacity crowd saw their national team continue to press forward but there was no further score.
