  • Description

The Kenya Amateur Athletics Association held a week-long coaching clinic in Nairobi in mid-December as part of the training programme for Kenyan athletes for the Montreal Olympics in July next year.

The clinic brought together the country's top athletes and twenty-four leading coaches. The Association is aiming for at least six track medals and three of four from boxing events at the Olympics.

The 50 kenyan athletes attending colleges in the United States will miss the nationally co-ordinates programme. But the association says they are getting the best possible coaching anyway.

The clinic was held at the Prisons Staff Training College in Nairobi. The Association organised a similar successful clinic before the 1972 Munich Olympics.

The clinic programme was divided into four parts; lectures on theory, practical demonstrations by the coaches, practical workouts and films.

Absent from the clinic as coaches were two of Kenya's top former athletes, Kip Keino, and Ben Jipcho, now professionals and both away on business.
