TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 7: MRS EVELYN CARTER: "FIRST, LET'S HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT THE UNIONS. (SHOUTS). ANY COMMENT CAN BE MADE AFTERWARDS. IF THERE IS ANYONE TO STIR UP TROUBLE PLEASE GO OUTSIDE AND I'LL SORT YOU OUT AFTERWARDS. (SHOUTS). WE DON'T WANT TROUBLE. (SHOUTS, CHEERS AND APPLAUSE). IF THESE MEN ARE INNOCENT...(SHOUTS). IF THESE MEN ARE INNOCENT... PLEASE GO OUTSIDE. (INTERRUPTION). OUR JOB IS DIFFICULT, TOO. IT'S ENOUGH TO COPE WITH CHILDREN AND HOUSEWORK AND ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS WITHOUT HAVING TO GO WITHOUT MONEY. WE CAN'T AFFORD A STRIKE. ALL OF YOU MUST PRESS YOUR MEN FOR A SECRET VOTE. (CHEERS AND APPLAUSE).
"COME UP HERE AND GIVE YOUR NAME," SAID ANOTHER SPEAKER. THERE WERE RENEWED SHOUTS, AND A WOMAN ON THE PLATFORM CRIED: "DOWN WITH COMMUNISM!" THEN A HECKLER TOOK OVER: "I KNOW THE TRUTH OF WHAT'S HAPPENING AT FORDS. (SHOUTS). I KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON. YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND..." MRS. CARTER INTERJECTED: "NO SPEECH - NO NAME AND ADDRESS. YOU MUST GIVE YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS." THE HECKLER SAID: "THERE IS NO QUESTION OF MUST. THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY." MRS. CARTER'S FOLLOWING REPLY - "NO NAME AND ADDRESS - NO SPEECH" - DREW MORE SHOUTS FROM THE AUDIENCE.

Background: UPROAR BROKE OUT TODAY (TUESDAY) AT A MEETING CALLED BY THE WIVES OF FORD MOTOR WORKERS WHO WANT TO BREAK THE OFFICIAL STRIKE CALLED FOR MIDNIGHT ON SATURDAY. THE WOMEN WANT A SECRET BALLOT AMONG THEIR MENFOLK BEFORE THE STRIKE. THEY FEEL THAT THIS WOULD REVEAL A MAJORITY VOTE AGAINST THE STOPPAGE.

FORDS HAVE RECENTLY BEEN HIT BY A WAVE OF UNOFFICIAL STRIKES. NOW, OFFICIALS OF 22 TRADE UNIONS ARE TRYING TO REACH A COMPROMISE. SIR PATRICK HENNESSY, THE COMPANY CHAIRMAN, CLAIMS THAT "PERSISTENT TROUBLEMAKERS, MANY OF THEM COMMUNISTS" HAVE OBSTRUCTED THE COMPANY AND THE UNIONS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO ESTABLISH LAW AND ORDER.

TROUBLE STARTED SOON AFTER THE MEETING BEGAN. MRS EVELYN CARTER, THE ORGANISER, SAID:
