MAYS RANKS THIRD IN LIFE TIME HOME RUNS WITH 660, HE HAS HIT OVER 3000 BASE HITS AND HAS A LIFE TIME BATTING AVERAGE OF .302. AT THIS PRESS CONFERENCE THURSDAY MAYS SAID ONCE HE GOT OVER HIS INITIAL FAR IN 1951 THINGS WENT ALL RIGHT FOR HIM. HE DID NOT GET A BASE HIT FOR HIS FIRST 21 TIMES AT THE BAT. WHEN THE GIANTS MOVED TO SAN FRANCISCO IN 1958, MAYS SAID THAT WAS THE TOUGHEST PART OF HIS CAREER BECAUSE PLAYING IN SAN FRANCISCO HE HAD TO OVERCOME THE REPUTATION OF JOE DIMAGGIO, WHO LIVED AND GREW UP IN SAN FRANCISCO BUT PLAYED FOR THE NEW YORK YANKEES.
