    Nineteen policemen and seven spectators were injured and 40 people were detained in Naples on Thursday night (May 28) after fighting on the pitch disrupted the final of the Anglo-Italian soccer tournament.

    Swindon Town were judged the winners of the tournament because the were leading Napoli 3-0 when Austrian referee Paul Schiller stopped the match with eleven minutes left to play.

    Swindon were presented with the winners' trophy by Signor Orfeo Pianelli, vice-president of the Italian Soccer Federation.

    25 minutes after the interval the first stones were thrown and shortly after the enraged Neapolitan fans poured onto the pitch. Nine minutes later, the referee ordered the players to leave the field.

    Police then mounted baton charges and fired teargas canisters to clear the field, but outside the stadium grounds the fighting continued.
