    The Nationalist Party, one of the political parties to emerge in Ghana since the lifting of the ban on political activities by the ruling National Liberation Council was launched at a ceremony in Accra on Wednesday (14 May).

    Hundreds of party supporters and sympathisers travelled from all parts of the country to attend the launching ceremony. Some of them carried placards and displayed the party's symbol -- a broom and the cob of the corn.

    Police stood by in case of any disturbances although they were not needed.

    The General Secretary of the party, Mr Modesto Apaloo, addressed the crowded meeting. He was followed by chairman Dr. Henry Bannerman.
