    THE 6,800 TONS OFF-SHORE DRILLING RIG, TRANSWORLD RIG 58, SET OFF TODAY (SUNDAY) FROM ROTTERDAM ON A 5,000 MILES (8,000 KMS) VOYAGE TO NIGERIAN WATERS WHERE IT WILL PROBE FOR OIL. ITS DRILLING AREA WILL BE 50 MILES (80 KMS) SOUTH OF THE NIGERIAN COASTAL TOWN OF WARRI.

    THE RIG HAS A PLATFORM 81 YARDS (74 METRES) LONG AND 56 YARDS (61 METRES) WIDE. IT WILL BE ABLE TO WORK IN ALMOST ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS IN WATER UP TO 600 FEET (184 METRES) DEEP. PERCHED ON FOUR MAIN LEGS, THE RIG WILL BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE 90 PEOPLE, AND HAS LANDING PLATFORM FOR HELICOPTERS. IT HAS BEEN INSURED FOR SIX AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS (2.3 MILLION STERLING). IT WILL DRILL FOR THE TRANSWORLD DRILLING COMPANY, WHICH IS AFFILIATED WITH THE KERR-MCGEE CORPORATION OF AMERICA.

    IN JANUARY ANOTHER OFF-SHORE DRILLING RIG, THE 2,700 TON ILE DE FRANCE, LEFT ROTTERDAM TO DRILL FOR OIL OFF THE COAST OF SENEGAL.
