In SOUTH AUSTRALIA something new in the way of sports training. These lads - members of South Australia's junior golf team are to have a course of hypnotism to prepare them for a big teams match in Melbourne next month. Their course is conducted by Mr. Allan Williams an Adelaide hypnotist. As a first step Mr. Williams puts the boys at ease, then asks them to listen carefully.
The boys were told they were the best junior golfers in South Australia, and there was no need for worry in the big match against other states. They would play as instructed, and Mr. Williams said they would not be nervous.
In the experiment, the boys are not completely hypnotised. They react more to hypnotic suggestion in which they are told - 'play to win'. The eight boys, with an average age of seventeen, are brought out of their semi-hypnotic state with easy gestures and words. A reporter said later they seemed rather unaware of what had taken place. Mr. Williams said hypnosis had been successful with Olympic athletes, but he believed this was the first time it had been tried on a team of golfers.
