  • Description

An exhibition of metal products from all parts of Ghana opened in the capital, Accra on Wednesday (6 March) the 17th anniversary of Ghana's independence form Britain.

On show was the work of fitters, blacksmiths, metal workers and welders from Ghana's nine administrative regions. The articles -- mostly manufactured in small workshops -- included agricultural tools, fire-arms, household equipment and full burners.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Nii Amugi II, Paramount Chief of the Greater Acra Region.

Mr. King Bruce, speaking on behalf of Major K. B. Agbo, the Commissioner of Labour, Social Welfare and Co-operatives, said the exhibition was significant in the light of the ruling National Redemption Council's policy of self-reliance.

Mr. Bruce said Major Agbo had taken steps to examine the feasibility of setting up modern fully-equipped workshops for metal tradesmen.
