INTRODUCTION: King Khalid of Saudi Arabia left hospital in London on Saturday (2 April) after undergoing a successful hip operation.

SYNOPSIS: He had spent seven weeks in a private suite in the exclusive Wellington Hospital.

During his time in the hospital, King Khalid received a steady stream of foreign visitors. On Saturday members of the Royal family and other Saudi Arabian dignitaries were on hand to accompany his from the hospital. He's to spend a further week in London for recuperation but his doctor, a leading specialist, said King Khalid had made a perfect recovery.

The Wellington Hospital is where most Arabs seeking medical care in the United Kingdom undergo treatment.

No details were given of the visits King Khalid received in hospital. Among those to see him were the leaders of numerous Arab countries. It's thought they discussed the question of Middle East peace settlements with him. King Hussein of Jordan was one of the guests and it was the first time he had been abroad since the death of his wife, Queen Alia, in February.

King Khalid also received the British Prime Minister, James Callaghan, and Foreign Secretary, David Owen. British and Saudi Arabia have a strong relationship. Saudi Arabia supplies most of Britain's oil requirements and Britain is one of the Arab nation's major arms suppliers.
