SYNOPSIS: A star-studded international side, the President's Overseas fifteen, in the coloured shirts, kicked off at Leicester, England, in the first of four games to mark the centenary of the English Rugby Union. South African Frick du Preez was first to break through the white shirted English club and county side.
His fellow-Springbok, McCallum, put the President's internationals five points ahead.
The counties' side, with eleven past and present English caps, fought back with this display of brilliant running by the backs: Janion broke through and Duckham raced for the line.
Five-three- but a McCallum penalty gave the internationals another three to make it eight-three.
The county men were always best when they got clear of the President's massive forwards - this time it was John Finlan who scored, and Hiller's conversion made it eight-all at the interval.
Eight minutes from the end the President's men scored again, but Broderick, helped by Larter, struck back in injury-time with a fine charge over the line.
Larter produced a rock-stead kick - and the score went to thirteen-all.
It looked like a draw, but Du Preez who started it all, crashed through to intercept his own side's kick and decided the game with a 35-yard gallop.
And McCallum made it 18-13.
