    DELEGATES ARRIVED IN DAR ES SALAAM YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) TO ATTEND A COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE ORGANISATION OF AFRICAN UNITY TO CONSIDER THEIR ACTIVITIES IN SOUTHERN AFRICA.

    COUNTRIES ATTENDING THE MEETING ARE TANZANIA, SENEGAL, THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC, GUINEA, CONGO-KINSHASA, ALGERIA, ETHIOPIA, SOMALIA, UGANDA, NIGERIA AND ZAMBIA.

    THE MEETING IS PRESIDED OVER BY CHAIRMAN DR. AMADOU GAYE, SENEGAL'S FOREIGN MINISTER, WHO, IN HIS OPENING ADDRESS SAID THAT THE MAIN TASK OF THE SESSION WAS TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF THE LIBERATION STRUGGLE IN SOUTHERN AFRICA AND TO SEE HOW EFFICIENTLY IT COULD BE INCREASED.

    HE SAID IT WAS SYMBOLIC THE MEETING WAS BEING HELD IN DAR ES SALAAM, WHICH IN ARABIC MEANS "HAVEN OF PEACE," AND ADDED: "LET US HOPE FOR PEACE, IN FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE, FOR ALL AFRICAN PEOPLE STILL UNDER FOREIGN DOMINATION".

    THE MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE, ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR THE DAY BEFORE, WAS DELAYED FOR THE ARRIVAL OF CHAIRMAN GAYE AND A DELEGATION FROM GUINEA.

    THE COMMITTEE WILL FORWARD ITS PROPOSALS ON THE GUERILLA WAR IN SOUTHERN AFRICA TO AN O.A.U. SUMMIT MEETING IN ADDIS ABABA NEXT MONTH.

    AFTER THE OPENING ADDRESS BY THE CHAIRMAN, THE COMMITTEE WENT INTO CLOSED SESSION.
