  • Description

President Kim II Sung of North Korea arrived in Yugoslavia on Thursday (5 June) to talk about a re-unified Korea.

He travelled to President Tito's picturesque Brdo Castle in the north-western Yugoslav republic of Slovenia.

Mr. Kim is making a personal tour of sympathetic nations to determine their attitude towards Korea in the wake of the United States' withdrawal from Indochina. He has already been to Rumania, where he signed a treaty of friendship, Algeria, Mauritania and Bulgaria.

This rare excursion into personal diplomacy follows his visit to Peking in April.

Earlier, President Tito met the Greek Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis at Brdo Castle, for talks on Balkan affairs and Cyprus.

A joint communique issued after the talks said Yugoslavia and Greece were ready to take part in all forms of multilateral Balkan co-operation.

The two countries would encourage the creation of new institutions and forms of co-operation among Balkan states.

Both sides called for an urgent, peaceful solution to the Cyprus situation and withdrawal of all foreign troops from the island.

They also called for a solution to the Middle East crisis, withdrawal of foreign troops from occupied Arab territories, and respect for the legitimate rights of Palestinians.
