Background: IN ACCRA ON MONDAY (25 NOVEMBER) THE VISITING DIRECTOR OF THE AFRO-AMERICAN-AFRICAN RELIEF INSTITUTE OF CALIFORNIA ANNOUNCED PLANS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SIMILAR INSTITUTE IN GHANA. THE REVEREND DR. CHARLES MOORE TOLD PRESSMEN THAT, IF PLANS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE INSTITUTE ARE APPROVED BY THE GOVERNMENT, WORK ON THE BUILDING WILL START IN THREE MONTHS TIME.

THE REVEREND MOORE WAS ACCOMPANIED ON HIS VISIT BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL OF SAN FRANCISCO, MR. G. RIP RIDLEY.

THE REVEREND MOORE SAID THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE PLAN WAS TO BRING AFRICANS AND AFRO-AMERICANS TOGETHER AND HELP TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THEM.

THE INSTITUTE IS AN NON-POLITICAL ORGANISATION, CONCERNED PRIMARILY WITH CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES AND CONCENTRATING ON THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF AFRICANS.

MR. RIDLEY, IN HIS ADDRESS TO REPORTERS, SAID THAT THE INSTITUTE WANTS TO GIVE RELIEF TO THE CONDITIONS TO WHICH ALL BLACK PEOPLE ARE RELEGATED. HE SAID THAT FUNDS HAVE BEEN SET ASIDE BY THE 44 MILLION AFRO-AMERICANS IN THE UNITED STATES FOR THE BUILDING AND OPERATION OF THE INSTITUTE.

THE DIRECTOR AND STAFF OF THE PLANNED INSTITUTE WILL BE GHANAIANS. EIGHTY TO 100 PEOPLE WILL BE EMPLOYED.
