  • Description

It was muscle time at Singapore's National Theatre last week when the first Asean Bodybuilding competition took place before an enthusiastic audience.

SYNOPSIS: Muscle men from throughout South East Asia participated in the contest and the team from Indonesia had the crowd shouting for more as they pranced and posed on stage. But the home team inspired the biggest round of applause and Fatholemein Ali of Singapore took third place in Class Two of the competition with a stylish display of well developed muscle-power. A huge crowd turned out to see the oiled and hairless muscle men going through their routines under the hot glare of the theatre lights.

Some of the toughest competition came from the contingent from Malaysia - but the crowd was asking for a home winner and this materialised in the well-sculptured shape of Ahmed Ramla, who gathered enough points to take first place in Class Three of the contest. A decision which was enthusiastically endorsed by the audience.

Later in the show it was the turn of competitors from Thailand to dominate and Patwong sitiyapan was on peak form. nevertheless he faced some tough competition from the Singaporeans who - like everyone in the body building game - must spend many years working and dieting to reach such outstanding proportions - with the aim of winning trophies in contests throughout the world. despite current male fashion still leaning towards the slim-line pop star look, body-building is gaining in popularity both as a spectator and participant sport.
