  • Description

Australia's Deputy prime Minister, Mr Jack McEwen left London today (July 14) to fly to Brussels, where he will have talks on topics relating to the Common market.

During his one-week stay in London, Mr McEwen met Britain's European Affairs Minister, Mr Anthony Barber, to discuss the special problems that would occur for australia should Britain enter the Common Market.

Mr Barber has been meeting with the representatives of the European Economic Community's (EEC's) six member countries and is responsible for negotiating Britain's terms of entry into the Community.

The New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister, Mr John Marshall, has also been in Britain discussing the same problems as Mr McEwen.

As both Australia and New Zealand are heavy exporters of agricultural and dairy products to Britain, they are especially concerned about the effects britain's entry into the Common Market would have on their economies.
