  • Description

THE FRENCH AIR FORCE THIS WEEK HAS TESTED AN AIR TO GROUND MISSILE SYSTEM USING A NEW SYSTEM OF GYROSCOPIC STABILISATION.

THE NEW SYSTEM, WHICH ACTS INDEPENDENTLY OF THE MOTION OF THE TRANSPORTING VEHICLE, ALLOWS A TARGET TO BE FIXED AND HELD.

THE NEW SYSTEM HAS SPECIAL APPLICATION IN HELICOPTERS, WHERE PREVIOUSLY THE AIM HAS BEEN IMPAIRED BY THE VIBRATION OF THE AIRPORT. IT CAN BE OPERATED EFFECTIVELY BY EITHER A PILOT OR A CO-PILOT.

IT CAN BE OPERATED IN ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS, AND IS SUITABLE FOR TRACKING AS WELL AS AIMING.

THE SYSTEM CAN SCAN OVER AN AREA OF 114 DEGREES. IT IS SAID TO BE THE MOST ADVANCED SYSTEM OF ITS KIND SUITABLE FOR USE IN HELICOPTERS.
