    In Paris, the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation - UNESCO - has made its Fairplay in sport awards for 1977. The ceremony took place on Monday (30 October).

    SYNOPSIS: One of the awards was presented to a nation - Japan. It was received from the Director-General of UNESCO, M. Amandou Mahtar M'Bow by Madamme Sayoko Sato representing the Japanese people for their constant impartiality and generosity to several teams during the World Volleyball Championship. The West German cyclist, Gustav Killian was another to receive an award for the sporting spirit he displayed during his career.

    United States swimmer John Naber was another to receive an award. The ceremony was watched by Lord Killian representing the International Olympic Committee. John Naber replied on behalf of the three winners.
