SYNOPSIS: During a weekend of political activity in Fort-Lamy, several thousand women members of the Chad Progress Party staged a rally in support of President Tombalbaye. In a statement explaining the purpose of the rally, the women said their demonstration of support for Chad's leaders was an answer to certain unspecified "renegades and turncoats" who were seeking to undermine national unity. Target for their march was the Presidential palace.

President Tombalbaye himself joined the march as it headed towards la Place de l' Independence. There, several women speakers addressed the rally. One of them, an Arab teacher, said that religious differences in the country should be considered outside the realm of politics. She said that the country's Moslem population should first regard itself as Chadian.
