SYNOPSIS: An Algerian delegation arrives in Doha, the Qatari capital, to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The Algerian ambassador in Kuwait was among the Qatari officials waiting to great the delegation on Friday. The group was led by Mr. Abdul Salam, the Algerian Minister of Industry and Energy. Qatar, which as a population of only one-hundred and-fifty thousand, depends on oil for nearly all its income.

Later, the delegatio went to Government House to meet the new Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Khalifa Al-Thani, and senior government ministers. Petroleum affairs were high on the agenda.

Both countries belong to the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries. This group recently threatened concerted action against any oil companies refusing to implement its decisions. Behind the move is a fear that western oil companies may try to drive a wedge between oil producing nations.
