    THE UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF COMMERCE, MAURICE H. STANS, HAS BEGUN A 17-NATION TOUR OF LATIN AMERICA WITH A VISIT TO VENEZUELA.

    MR. STANS ARRIVED IN CARACAS ON THURSDAY (16TH) AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED ON PRESIDENT RAFAEL CALDER.

    A LETTER OF INTRODUCTION AND GOOD WISHES FROM PRESIDENT NIXON WAS HANDED OVER BY MR. STANS.

    IT'S THE FIRST TIME AN AMERICAN SECRETARY OF STATE HAS MADE SUCH A VISIT TO LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES AND THE FIRST VISIT TO VENEZUELA BY A MEMBER OF THE NIXON CABINET.

    WHILE ON TOUR MR. STANS IS TO DISCUSS HIS GOVERNMENT'S POLICY OF PARTNERSHIP AND CO-OPERATION ON MUTUAL AND EQUAL TERMS. TRADE, INVESTMENT TOURISM, AND TECHNOLOGY ARE TOPICS INCLUDED IN THE ROUNDS OF DISCUSSIONS WITH THE VARIOUS GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS HE WILL MEET ON TOUR.

    ADDRESSING A PRESS CONFERENCE AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH VENEZUELAN OFFICIALS, MR. STANS SAID HE WAS CONFIDENT OF AN INCREASED VOLUME OF TRADE BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES, AND LOOKED FORWARD TO CONTINUED GOOD RELATIONS ON MATTERS AFFECTING THEIR FUTURE INTERESTS.
