The Pearce Commission which has been testing Rhodesian opinion on proposals for a settlement between Britain and the breakaway colony began winding up its operations Tuesday, (March 7), as its eight-week assignment neared its end.

In a radio broadcast the Commission announced that teams still conducting inquiries in African townships are finishing their work and returning to the capital. Yesterday (March 6) Lord Pearce and other commissioners returned to Salisbury from Victoria Falls to write up reports and prepare for departure, and seventeen mail bags containing about 75-thousand letters to the Commission were flown to London. The Commission is expected to take another four to six weeks before issuing its final report.
