    SV Town Clerk, S. Tapper-Jones speaks:- "Your Royal Highness, would you be pleased to take the oath and testament" 'You shall never to be true and faithful to our Sovereign Lady the Queen & the Lord Mayor of this City. You shall be obedient to the Lord Mayor for the time being of the said City, and obey his warrants, precepts & commands; you shall be civil and obedient to the Alderman of the City." (laughter)

    SV Lord Mayor, Alderman George Ferrier speaks:- "Ladies & Gentlemen: We are assembled here today to confer upon your Royal Highness the greatest honour which is in our power to bestow. That is, the honorary Freedom of the Great City."

    SV Duke of Edinburgh speaks:- "My Lord Mayor, Aldermen & Counsellors. Ladies & Gentlemen. It is always comforting to be told that one is a person of distinction. But it is even more comforting to know that it is by Act of Parliament." (laughter)

    SV..."I realise, of course, that I owe you thanks four times over, because I feel that any conferring the freedom of Cardiff upon me you have given much pleasure to the Earl of Merioneth" (laughter)

    SV..."To the University of Wales in the person of its Chancellor & you have also paid tribute to the gallant Regiment of the Welsh Guards."
