  • Description

In the third match of their six-game series, the United States "All Stars" basketball team, outpointed the visiting Soviet Union team in New Mexico on Wednesday night (2 May). This puts the U.S. team ahead by one game.

The U.S. team out-shot and out-rebounded the visitors in a game that was physically rough. Both sides were upset by the rough play which resulted in several injuries among players from both sides. The Soviet coach refused to comment on the game afterwards, nor would he allow any of his players to comment. The American coach claimed that United States basketball wasn't normally so rough, but he said this was the way the other team seemed to want it.

Previously, on Monday (30 April), both teams met in San Diego where the Soviet won. One of their top players was injured in the match and the American coach conceded this was a big factor in the US victory on Wednesday (2 May), At Albuquerque, (pronounced Alber-Ker-Key).

Results of Wednesday's match were 83 to 67 in favour of the U.S. team. The fourth match in the series will take place in Indianapolis on Saturday (5 May).
