Background: Santiago, the capital city of Chile, is busy preparing 'the house' to receive the guests that will come from almost every part of the world to see the games of the 7th World Championship of Soccer.

Santiago is a modern city with a bit over 2 million inhabitants with the most homogenous all-white population in South America, with an up to date modern life on everything concerning to industry, commerce, arts and sports.

If you take a little tour along Santiago's streets, you'll see how busy the Chileans are, and how many new details are being added to the city to make her more easy and pleasant to the tourist.

The traffic lights have new signs with the names of the streets to make it more easy for the tourist to go places.

All the streets on the commercial center and in the principal areas of the city, that had old pavement, are being re-paved at a rate of three blocks per day. Hundreds of kilometers of streets have had this treatment.

And at night, Santiago gleams with its new lights. Hundreds of new electric signs have been installed trying to catch the eye of the foreign buying power, that is to catch the dollars of the tourists.

The soccer games will start within 28 days, but you can breathe now on the air of Santiago, in these winter days of a weather similar to that of California or the south of France.
