    MAIN ROAD AND RAIL TRAFFIC BETWEEN PARIS AND THE FRENCH RIVIERA WAS STOPPED TRACKS. TELEGRAPH POSTS WERE CUT DOWN DURING THE NIGHT.

    ABOUT 3,000 POLICE WERE DETAILED TO PREVENT POSSIBLE VIOLENCE. EARLY REPORTS SAID SCUFFLES HAD DEVELOPED BETWEEN SOME PEASANTS AND ANGRY MOTORISTS.

    IN AN EFFORT TO BLOCK RAIL COMMUNICATIONS, GROWERS IN SOME AREAS BURNED TYRES ON RAILWAY LINES.
