    SIX SOUTH AFRICAN MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT AND SENATORS WERE GUESTS AT A SITTING OF THE MALAWI PARLIAMENT IN ZOMBA, ON TUESDAY (29 JULY).

    THE VISIT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ENGAGEMENTS OF A TEN-BAY OFFICIAL TOUR OF THE COUNTRY FOR THE PARLIAMENTARIANS AS GUESTS OF THE MALAWI BRANCH OF THE COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION.

    LED BY THE SPEAKER OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, MR J. J. KLOPPER, THE DELEGATION INCLUDES ONE SENATOR, THREE N.P.'S FROM THE RULING NATIONALIST PARTY, AND ONE M.P. FROM THE OPPOSITION UNITED PARTY.

    AT THE SITTING, THEY MET MALAWI M.P.'S, WATCHED PARLIAMENTARY DELIBERATIONS, AND TALKED WITH MALAWI PRESIDENT DR. HASTINGS BANDA. HE ARRIVED AT THE PARLIAMENT HOUSE IN HIS PRESIDENTIAL ROLLS ROYCE TO A SINGING AND DANCING WELCOME FROM JUBILANT SUPPORTERS.

    DURING THE REMAINDER OF THEIR STAY, THE DELEGATES -- THE FIRST FROM THE SOUTH AFRICAN PARLIAMENT TO HAVE MADE AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO AND INDEPENDENT BLACK AFRICAN NATION -- WILL ALSO VISIT THE NEW MALAWI CAPITAL OF LILONGWE, WHICH IS BEING BUILT PARTLY ON A GBP4,700,000 STERLING LOAN FORM SOUTH AFRICA.
