    THE OPERATIONS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL SINCE 1955 RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF 70 VIETCONG MEMBERS AND CAPTURE OF 17. EQUIPMENT CAPTURED INCLUDED 20 GUNS OF VARIOUS SIZES AND 1.4 KILOS OF GOLD LEAVES.

    REPORTS SAID THAT WHEN ENCIRCLED THE VIET CONG MEN TRIED TO ESCAPE BUT WERE FORCED TO A FIGHT. THE AMPHIBIOUS TANKS ARE REPORTED TO HAVE PLAYED A DETERMINED ROLE IN THE JUNGLE BATTLE.

    IN MY THO VILLAGE, CAPITAL OF DINH TUONG, SOME OF THE SOLDIERS WHO TOOK PART IN THE OPERATIONS CALLED "DAN TIEN 30" WERE ADDRESSED ON AUG 9 BY GEN. LE VAN TY, CHIEF OF THE VIETNAMESE ARMED FORCES. THE SOLDIERS WERE GIVEN MEDALS BY THE GENERAL.

    GIRLS OF THE VILLAGE ALSO GARLANDED THE SOLDIERS.
