    YOUNG NEWSMEN FROM NIGERIA AND THE CAMEROON STARTED A SEMINAR ARRANGED BY THE AFRICAN JOURNALISM INSTITUTE AT LAGOS UNIVERSITY YESTERDAY (MONDAY).

    THE INSTITUTE WAS FORMED RECENTLY BY THE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF JOURNALISTS TO ARRANGE SHORT-TERM SPECIALISED TRAINING FOR JOURNALISTS THROUGHOUT AFRICA. THE YOUNG ENGLISH-SPEAKING JOURNALISTS AT THE LAGOS SEMINAR WERE ATTENDING THE FIRST OF THREE SESSIONS. THERE WILL BE ANOTHER ONE IN LAGOS, AND A THIRD IS PLANNED FOR FRENCH - SPEAKING JOURNALISTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ABIDJAN IN THE IVORY COAST. THERE WILL BE UP TO TWENTY-FIVE YOUNG NEWSMEN AT EACH SESSION.

    THE VICE-CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS, DR BIOBAKU, THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE INSTITUTE, MR GABSON AKINSETE, AND THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE DAILY TIMES OF NIGERIA, ALHAJI BABATUNDE JOSE, PRESIDED AT THE OPENING OF THE FIRST SESSION. THE DIRECTOR OF THE NIGERIAN NATIONAL MINISTRY OF INFORMATION, MR CYPRIAN EKWENSI, ALSO CAME ALONG TO SPEAK TO THE JOURNALISTS.

    EXPERIENCED JOURNALISTS FROM AFRICA AND EUROPE WILL GIVE LECTURES AT THE SEMINAR, AND THERE WILL BE PRACTICAL EXERCISES FOR THE STUDENTS. IN ALL THE INSTITUTE IS PLANNING A SERIES OF TWELVE SEMINARS.
